The campaign. What's it all about?
Like a lot of people, when we heard that they were going to close BBC 6 Music we thought why? Really? Eh? Serious? But...eh? Why? I don't get it. Knobs.
Then my fíance and myself thought over tea what can we do? We should protest. Yeah. But how?
Over the course of preparing meatballs and spaghetti ideas were bounced around until it was clear. We'd protest by placing our hands over our ears. We don't want to listen to stupid cuts in culture because The Man deems it so. We're not having it. We don't want to listen to anything else other than 6 Music (slight exaggeration). We want to save 6 Music and I don't want to hear anything else.
Don't get me wrong the BBC is ace. They have some rough edges, some questionable programmes but I don't mind that. What I/we do mind is when they take something that is actually very valuable away from us. To us removing BBC 6 Music is like taking away Blue Planet, Match of the Day, Panorama, Masterchef, Mad Men, Family Guy, Jools Holland from the box. Its not Radio 4, obviously, but these things give us our chance to taste a quality side of life without asking too much of us. They educate and culturally enhance us without making us work for it. And we like that.
Even simpler than that though, I feel at a great loss at losing 6 Music. A couple of Sundays ago I spent the best part of 3 hours in the kitchen listening to Huey Morgan and Jarvis Cocker whilst preparing a roast. I probably could have done much more in that time but it felt right, I was unwinding from the week. And the fact that I can recall that with pleasure shows me how much 6 Music brings to my life.
So get involved and Help Save 6 Music.
